On Saturday, June 19th, residents of Brevard came together to honor and celebrate Helen Dertinger's 101st birthday. Helen Dertinger served as a nurse in the Navy in World War II, and is the oldest living member of American Legion Post 81, which organized this event. The long procession of vehicles drove past Ms. Dertinger as she sat in front of her housing complex. Brevardians wished Ms. Dertinger a happy birthday by honking, blowing noisemakers, and waving flags.
In addition to the parade of motorcycles and cars, police vehicles, rescue vehicles, and a fire truck joined in letting Mrs. Dertinger know how much we appreciate her service to our country. Happy Birthday Helen Dertinger!
