Did you know that Social Work is one of the fastest-growing fields in the country? In fact, do you know what Social Workers do?
As you probably know, social workers work in child welfare, and in schools. Did you know they also work in hospitals, including emergency rooms? They work in hospice, in substance abuse and counseling, at the VA, in family counseling centers, in in-patient facilities, senior centers, prisons, and in private therapy. The majority of mental health professionals are clinically trained social workers. There are more clinically trained social workers than psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychiatric nurses combined. But, that's not all they do.
Social workers work for advocacy organizations … they work with law enforcement responding to crisis calls … they work in human resources and corporate social responsibility roles … as lobbyists … as politicians and political aides. Social workers run non-profit organizations. Some are researchers, and some work in higher education.
The variable opportunities in social work mean that you will never be tied to one field, as your skills are wide-ranging and transferable. Additionally, your degree is recognized in all 50 states.
