The Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) is the entity that provides transportation planning services for Brevard County. The TPO hosts various informational events throughout the year for Brevard residents. I want to highlight two TPO events that I went to and would recommend to other social workers.
One early morning in early November, residents around Brevard County meet at the Eau Gallie Civic Center for the Mobility Week Try Transportation workshop presented by the TPO and Space Coast Area Transit. This breakfast workshop included a presentation on transportation, a talk by Transit Director Terry Jordan, a short pedestrian safety walk through Historic Downtown Melbourne and a ride on one of Brevard’s new hybrid-electric buses.
This event was a great way to learn about public transportation in Brevard and its accessibility. Being familiar with the different services available can be a great resource when working with your clients, as well as give you a starting point on how to advocate for better public transportation and pedestrian safety measures around the county.
In mid-November, the TPO presented its annual State of Transportation for 2023. This event included presentations on current transportation projects by representatives of participating cities and companies.
Check out the TPO’s website for more information and upcoming events.
