Message From Dean Clark: FSU CSW Extends a Warm Welcome to Brevard Residents

FSU campus

Social Work is one of America’s fastest-growing professions. Because social workers provide lifesaving and life-enhancing services, the profession seeks to attract persons dedicated to public service. Social workers are employed in essential direct services, program leadership, and policy development roles in the public and private sectors.

Florida State University College of Social Work is a US Top-Twenty public university program (US News & World Report). Our social workers practice on the foundation of the excellent professional education they receive at FSU. We want our highly trained graduates in every county in Florida, to improve individuals’ and families’ lives and increase the social work impact across the state. With 600,000 residents and hundreds of social service agencies, non-profit organizations, and other public service initiatives, Brevard County needs more professionally educated Social Workers.

Brevard residents who attend FSU enrich our student body. With their connection to the Space Coast and Cape Canaveral, to North America’s most biodiverse estuary, the Indian River Lagoon, and to the many high-tech organizations in the county, Brevard residents bring unique experiences and perspectives as in-person or online students.

One strength of Brevard is its large military population. Sixteen percent of Brevard residents are veterans, and Brevard is home to 4,000 active, guard, and reserve troops. Because veterans and military service members engender service, honor, and sacrifice, they are valued and vital additions to the social work profession and the FSU College of Social Work. If you are a veteran or service member, please consider joining us, and making a difference in the field of social work.

The FSU CSW faculty and staff deeply value our social work students and alumni from Brevard. We appreciate you, we celebrate you, and we’re here for you, whether you’re coming to study on campus or remain in Brevard and learn online. A powerful Seminole network of FSU alumni is ready to support you and welcome you into the family!

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the FSU College of Social Work!

Dr. Jim Clark, Dean & Professor

PS. We are especially grateful to MSW alumnus Guy Spearman and his wife, Delores. They love FSU and Brevard County and support Brevard students through special scholarships and as mentors. With their help, the FSU-Brevard connection will grow stronger every day. Go Noles!
