World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2023

Each year on June 15th, we recognize World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD). WEAAD was started in 2006, by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization, to raise awareness and understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons.

This June, Brevard County held its own WEAAD community event at the Space Coast Health Foundation off of US1 in Rockledge. The event was hosted by the Brevard Alzheimer’s Foundation, and featured a panel of experts including Brevard Clerk of Courts Rachel Sadoff, and Board Certified Elder Law Attorney Ruth Rhodes, Esq.

The event featured many local agencies and organizations who support older adults and their caregivers in Brevard. This was the first year the event was held at the Space Coast Health Foundation. There were various agencies and organizations tabling as a part of the Community Info Fair. The event also featured speakers Brevard County Clerk of Courts Rachel Sadoff and Elder Law Attorney Ruth Rhodes, and a panel discussion on elder abuse and exploitation with the keynote speakers and the Clerk’s Investigator General Linda Moros.
